First and foremost I need to give a giant THANK YOU to all of you mommas out there that came to my rescue last week with amazing tricks, advice, and product suggestions that will save my baby and myself from spontaneous combustion. We have new products ordered and new tricks up our sleeves that I'm already using. THANKS!
For those of you who know me well, you know I am the epitome of a "Late Adopter." It took me 16 years of life to figure out that I would look much better in REAL GIRL clothes, rather than drab jeans, tennies, and hoodie every day. I didn't get a cell phone till I was 18, didn't get my ears pierced till I was 23, didn't get texting till I was 24, didn't get SnapChat till...oh wait, still not doing SnapChat. I'm a late adopter. Ignorant? No. Lazy and cheap? Most definitely.
Why do I mention this? Well because this week I tried some things that are actually kind of new. Well not NEW new...but definitely not to the point where I'm the latest adopter. And I'm putting them here, not because I'm proud of myself for trying new things (pat on the back Kat), because they could be Mommy Game-Changers. Especially for moms who are short on time, patience, and functioning brain cells.
I know Box Subscriptions are not new at all, actually I'm way late to the game on that one. I would say, however, that Hello Fresh in particular is only starting to really get rolling. We tried it out for a week and here's what we found:
Pros

Packaging was beautiful. It's always a thrill to get a package on your doorstep--and this package does not disappoint! HUGE box, attractive design, clean and functional inner packaging with each meal separated into it's own box. The packaging was impressive.
Customer friendly. They separate each meal into it's own smaller box (which fits easily into your fridge). The boxes are also marked with little hints like "Cook me first," or "Remove Avocado." They also include a beautiful, easy-to-follow recipe booklet with the recipes for the week inside. Basically they set you up for success. #RookieCook no more.

EASY! The recipes are so simple--especially because they have pretty much everything already separated and measured out for you. They do expect you to provide your own olive oil, salt and pepper, and kitchen appliances (including things like a zester but that's as out-there as it gets). Everything else is taken care of. They even let you know right up front how long the meal prep will take, which ingredients you will be using, and which appliances to get out. Thanks for dumbing it down for us!
DELISH! The recipes were ALL delicious! I actually really enjoyed every meal. We stay in a pretty tiny box 'round here when it comes to meals. Ask my husband what we eat for dinner and I already know which five meals he'll mention. It was nice to have some VARIETY for a change!

Cons
SO DANG EXPENSIVE!! We were doing a free trial (did I mention I was cheap?) but our box in real life would have cost us $80. $80 bucks a week for just FOUR DINNERS for two people? I don't think so. I'd rather save the labor and just eat out! Maybe that's in-budget for some of you (I don't judge!) but I'll take my five same meals every week and save the cash thank you very much.
Overall: Great service, delicious food, too pricey for me. Sorry Hello Fresh, I'm out. But again, if this fits your grocery budget...DO IT!!!
Anyone have a subscription service that they LOVE?? Definitely not opposed to trying more!
This too has been around for a while, but I still see empty parking spaces in the "Pickup" location all the time, so I think more people need convincing. LADIES...anyone really but this is particularly mom life-changing...LADIES! You must try this! You simply:
Order your groceries online (you can even specify how green you want your bananas!)
Show up at the store within the your chosen hour block and call the number on the sign
Wait in your warm, cozy car with your still-buckled children while the nice Smith's employee brings your groceries out
Confirm your order with friendly employee and pay with card
Sit in comfortable warm car with peceful, buckled children while said Smith's employee, who is now your new best friend named Salisha, happily loads your car for you
You drive off into the sunset with no temper tantrums, impulse buys, or near-fatalities to haunt you. Ahh life is good.
Can you say GAME-CHANGER!! There is seriously no down-side to this one. I don't know if I'll ever walk into Smith's again! Thanks Salisha.

Cahoots Fitness is a Mommy/Baby gym and it is AMAZING! It offers four different exercise classes day as well as classes for babies and toddlers. AKA your baby gets to attend an exercise (development) class while you get "Mommy Time" with 20 other energetic, amazing moms. Don't want to put your kid in a class? They can watch you from their car seat. Every class I went to had at least 4 babies in car seats around the perimeter of the room. Annie loved it---Mom dancing around like a crazy person=total entertainment. It's a little pricey for a gym but getting my workout in with such a fantastic community of moms is SO worth it! Plus it's a GREAT work out---the sweaty, sticky, ugly red-faced kind. If you're interested they let you try out your first class for free and then new families can do a $15 for 15 days deal. DO IT! The gym is located in Lehi, Utah so sorry anyone who doesn't live in Utah Valley. Next best thing would be a gym that has a babysitting service or just start your own "Cahoots" with other moms near you!

Three new experiments in a week--not too bad! What other mommy life-savers are out there for me to try? I may be a late adopting Early Adopter, but I'm on a roll! I hear puppy yoga is a thing....
