Summer time and the livin' is easy

It's been a long time coming (holy long spring, Utah!) but Summer is FINALLY here! I don't know how it's been in the rest of the country but I think the groundhog lied about early spring--we had SNOW up here a couple of weeks ago. SNOW!!! Summer, we've been waiting for you.

So far, summer is the best season of motherhood. There are so many fun "kid things" to do! This helps on those days when I run out of games to play...aka EVERY day...see previous post. Annie loves being outside so long walks, bouncing on the trampoline, and walking back and forth between the potted plants on our porch to touch the dirt have all become a daily ritual.

There are some big, as in out-of-the-ordinary, things we've done to fully swing in summer...and they are some of my all-time favorite activities!

HIKING! Over Memorial Day weekend we took Annie on a beautiful hike up Big Cottonwood Canyon. Because this weird Spring/Winter thing was so long, the river was overflowing and foliage incredible. All-in-all, breathtaking views.

"Outside is fun. I have a wedgie."

POOL! Another Summertime hit has been hitting up the neighborhood pool! Thank goodness for that over-crowded, crazy, wet hole of happiness--because when it gets hot here in Utah, it gets HOT. We took Annie to the pool for the first time this past week, a little unsure of how she would take it (she hasn't been loving bath time lately). Check out her reaction:

SHE LOVED IT! Every little bit of it. Wading, splashing, swimming with daddy, drinking the water (just...don't think about it). Loved it. We are about to become pool bums. Thank you, swimming pool, for giving me something to do with my daughter that we can both enjoy for longer than 10 minutes.

Pure Baby Joy

BERRIES BERRIES BERRIES! Summertime fruit is like manna from heaven! You may recall that Annie had a rocky start with solids for two reasons: 1) She was disgusted by them, and 2) she became constipated because of them. Rough life, I don't blame you girl. Well here's the happy news: Annie loves berries! She's been warming up to food for a while now but her reaction to berries, especially strawberries, hits a whole new level of love. And WE love them because of her adorable sticky, red face. That, and those strawbs are most often coated with Annie's "Special Sugar" (aka Miralax). Way to solve problem #2, Berries. Pun absolutely intended.

Do NOT swipe fruit from Annie's tray. You've been warned.

I guess it's true what they say, "Summer Tiiiiiime and the Livin' is Easy." I don't know if it's the sunshine, or the water, or the celestial summertime berries, or the festivals, or the late beautiful sunsets, or what...all I know is the mundane isn't as mundane. The struggle isn't quite so real. And it's a whole lot easier to put a smile on her face, and mine. Thanks Summer.
